Support to Succeed

Preparing Your Child for High School and Beyond

Middle school is a time of significant change for children, both socially and academically. A committed community with strong values is critical as students prepare for the challenges of high school and beyond. Faithful Shepherd, with its foundation in Catholic values, provides the best possible environment for your child to develop into a successful teenager and adult. The rapport that our faculty develop with their students forges a trust that gives your child the academic, social, and spiritual nourishment they need to flourish. At Faithful Shepherd, your middle school son or daughter will get the support needed to continue to mature and grow.

PowerSchool

Faithful Shepherd utilizes PowerSchool as a bridge between teachers and families for real-time student progress in the classroom. This web-based system allows parents of our 4th through 8th grade students to see their child’s grades and attendance.  It breaks down grades by class, provides individual assignment scores, and calculates approximate GPA. All middle school students, and 4th and 5th grade students by request, are able to access their grades and check on assignments through their own accounts.  It is a powerful way for faculty and families to work together to support students’ success.

Middle School Academic Departments

Our Middle School program consists of eight faculty members in the following departments:

  • Science
  • Spanish
  • Religion
  • Social Studies
  • English/Language Arts (ELA)  – two teachers, four levels
  • Math – two teachers, two levels

Middle School 1:1 Chromebook Program

Faithful Shepherd utilizes Chromebooks to expand our students’ horizons. These computers are provided to each student in grades 6-8 to store student work and data in the cloud. Chromebooks serve as the central tool for middle school homework and student/teacher collaboration.

Faithful Shepherd middle school students and teachers also utilize  Google Apps for Education in the classroom. Through their Chromebooks, students use their school Google account to gain access to a variety of academic environments and leverage a standard platform for homework and communication throughout the school year: Google Classroom. This allows for access to documents and communication between students and staff, at any time and any place.

In addition, classrooms have interactive computer products from SMART.

Middle School Service

With our new three-year strategic plan Catholic Identity is an area that our community said needs improvement. Service is one component that we will work to improve and make more meaningful for our students, families, faculty, and staff.

Mission Statement: Grounded in our Catholic faith, we enrich each student’s journey from pre-K to 8th grade by nurturing meaningful growth in academic achievement and service to Christ in the world.

Also, one of our guiding principles: Creating a sense of social justice and service to others through thought, actions, and prayer – speaks to the beautiful opportunity that service has in helping all of us grow in our faith journey.

We invite our students to participate in three areas of service: Parish (5), Community (5), and School (5), Student Choice (5).  If your child has participated in any of these services over the summer, that is a wonderful way to stay involved and actively participate in faithful service.

We encourage a variety of service hours so that students have different opportunities to serve.

Please use the service hour form which is available on the middle school website, on the Religion Google Classroom page, and hard copies in the office or religion classroom to complete service hours. Parents, please sign the supervisor’s signature if you are the person in charge of the activity being completed.
