Level II enrichment is FLEXIBLE by its very nature. It can take place within the classroom and/or outside of the classroom. Student participation in level II enrichment may change throughout the year, week to week or unit to unit. Level II enrichment may differentiate by readiness, by student interest or by critical or creative thinking strategy. FLEXIBILITY is the nature of K-3 level II enrichment.
Mrs. Maertens, the K-5 Enrichment Teacher, provides level II enrichment in collaboration with the Kindergarten Teachers in order to provide the best learning fit in and outside of the kindergarten classrooms. Below are the different areas of level II enrichment. Level II enrichment occurs a few times per week for 25-30 minutes per time.
Level II reading enrichment is a flexible group comprised of students from all the kindergarten classes and is a push-out experience that occurs for 25-30 minutes per class.

Mrs. Maertens reads the story The Dot and works with the first graders to create their own Dot creation, which is then displayed near the front staircase. This occurs around September 15th, International Dot Day.

Mrs. Maertens will introduce herself and do a Read-Aloud of Peter Reynold’s book entitled, The Dot. This picture book focuses on the themes of creativity, courage and collaboration. The second grade students will be creating “dot” creations for our International Dot Day “Dot Gallery.” This display will begin on the bulletin board outside of the volunteer room and will commemorate International Dot Day which is celebrated on or around September 15.
In this unit, students will learn about outer space and space exploration. Below are the unit reading targets.

Meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:55-11:25am. A flexible group comprised of students grouped by readiness through math pre-unit assessments. Second grade level II math enrichment is a push-out class that occurs twice each week for 30 minutes and focuses on the current math unit targets.
